Protein shakes after exercise

Many of these protein shakes are made from milk whey. This is a by-product that is produced during cheese making.

The shakes contain high-quality proteins that are quickly absorbed by the body. They help to promote effective muscle recovery. Whey also contains milk sugars.

So if people with lactose intolerance want to have a shake after exercising, it is good to know that this is possible without any problems if you take a Kerutabs tablet at the same time.

That lactose intolerance need not stand in the way of a career as a top athlete, Merel Conijn showed at the 5,000m speed skating event in Milan. A silver medal!

It seemed this would not work out. Merel is also lactose intolerant and almost threw away her career by not eating dairy products. This led to a severe calcium deficiency that made sports at top level impossible. She herself says: “...I was heartbroken. Skating really wasn't my main concern anymore. I didn't train for 12 weeks in the summer of 2023. I could hardly do anything, I was a stone. I had lost my emotions, was just lying in bed. It really wasn't fun...” Fortunately, by adjusting her diet, among other things, she managed to get everything back on track. And then getting this result. Great. Merel, congratulations! laughing

‘…Lactose-free products are never 100% lactose-free…’

During a radio broadcast, it was mentioned that someone still suffered from lactose intolerance despite drinking lactose-free milk.

Lactase is added to many lactose-free products so that the body can process the lactose. This helps many people with an intolerance.

However, there will almost always be a residual amount of lactose left in the product. People with a high level of lactose intolerance may therefore still experience problems.

‘…Those who cannot tolerate dairy products do indeed run a higher risk of bowel cancer…’

From: interview in De Gelderlander newspaper, 11 February 2025 with Professor Ellen Kampman, nutrition and cancer expert, Wageningen University. At the time, she obtained her doctorate on the relationship between dairy products and bowel cancer.

In this interview, the question was asked: Milk helps prevent bowel cancer, according to new research. ‘…Yes, that is a fact. The more dairy products someone consumes, the lower their risk of colon cancer….What is interesting about this study is that it also demonstrates the effect of lactose intolerance: people who cannot tolerate dairy products do indeed have a higher risk of colon cancer…’

Our response: So it is good to drink dairy products from time to time. Fortunately, Kerutabs can help people with lactose intolerance to do so.
