Enzymes are proteins that are necessary for digesting carbohydrates, fats and proteins in the body and breaking down nutrients into substances that we need to function.

Lactose is the sugar found in milk, such as breast milk and cow's milk. Lactose is a so-called ‘double sugar’ and consists of one molecule of glucose and one molecule of galactose. Lactase is the enzyme that breaks down lactose into glucose and galactose. Lactase ‘cuts’ the lactose in half, as it were, so that glucose and galactose can be absorbed by the body.

Most people produce this enzyme themselves in the small intestine. If this does not happen, or happens insufficiently, and you experience symptoms when consuming milk (products), you are lactose intolerant.

Kerutabs tablets contain the enzyme lactase, which enables you to digest the sugars in milk (products) and therefore enjoy dairy products with peace of mind.

Most people manage with 1 or 2 tablets each time you consume milk (products).

Because lactase itself also digests, you should take another 1 or 2 tablets before consuming milk (products) again on the same day. Lactase enzyme works for approximately 30–45 minutes.

You may take the tablets shortly before or at the same time as consuming milk (products). This may be done with a small amount of water.

Do not take more than 3 tablets at a time.

If you frequently take 2 tablets, you can now also choose KerutabsFORTE. This is a double dose of the ‘regular’ Kerutabs. In that case, 1 tablet is sufficient. Do not take more than 1.5 tablets at a time.

Lactase works for 30 to 45 minutes. The lactase in the tablets is broken down in the gastrointestinal tract and is therefore only effective for a limited time. So if you eat or drink products containing lactose at different times, you will need to take lactase tablets each time.

In the case of galactosemia you cannot use Kerutabs®. Galactosaemia literally means ‘galactose in the blood’. In people with galactosaemia, galactose is not digested by the body. It is a very rare disease that a person is born with. Because Kerutabs breaks down lactose into glucose and galactose, anyone suffering from galactosaemia must not (!) use Kerutabs.

When lactose is ‘split’ into glucose and galactose by Kerutabs, the sugar level in the blood rises. This can affect people with diabetes. Therefore, keep a close eye on your blood sugar levels. If you have diabetes and are unsure whether you can use Kerutabs, consult your doctor or diabetes nurse first to be on the safe side.

Yes. Kerutabs has been available for many years and to date there is no evidence that Kerutabs is harmful to mother and child during pregnancy. Kerutabs does not pass into breast milk. You can therefore use Kerutabs while breastfeeding.

Yes, there are no known interactions with medicines, nor are any to be expected based on the active ingredients in Kerutabs.
